Eyeglass Style Transistor Hearing Aids: 1954-1990

Widex Model V1 Eyeglass Transistor Hearing Aid

The Widex Model V1 eyeglass hearing aid was manufactured by Toepholm & Westermann A/S of Copenhagen, Denmark and sold under the trade name of Widex. It came out in 1975.

As was common in the mid-1970s, eyeglasses had thick frames and large lenses so the thick temple-pieces for the hearing aids didn't stand out as much as they would have otherwise.

The back part of the temple-piece measured 9/16" high x ⅜" thick (1.4 x 1.0 cm) and weighed 2.1 oz. (60 g).

The bottom of the dummy temple-piece had a battery compartment to carry a spare battery.

To turn it off, you just used your thumb on the ridged back of the battery door to lift it a bit.

To open the battery compartment door, you had to start with the switch in the off position then put your index fingernail in the notch (left side) and "jockey" the door open.
