Paravox Model VV3 "All In One" Vacuum Tube Hearing Aid
The Paravox Hearing Aid Company of Cleveland, Ohio manufactured the Paravox
Model VV3 (All In One) vacuum tube hearing aid in 1942. The brass case
was beige-colored with gold trim. The Model VV3 had 3 vacuum
tubes. (A similar model the VV2 only used 2 vacuum tubes.) The Model
VV3 measured 5” by
2⅜” by 1” and weighed a hefty 9 oz. without batteries. |

The back view of the Paravox VV3 hearing aid. An unusual feature of
this aid is that instead of plugging the receiver cord into the hearing
aid, you slid it into place (from the bottom). Notice also, the two
pocket clips (top).

Another unusual feature of the Paravox VV3 is that the battery
compartment cover slid, rather than opened with the usual hinged cover.
Here it is shown mostly opened. The Paravox VV3 used a 1˝ volt C cell
for its "A" battery (left), and a 30 volt 430-E "B" battery (right).

The Paravox VV3 had a crystal receiver like many of the other
vacuum-tube hearing aids of this period, rather than a
dynamic receiver. The crystal receiver was 1" in diameter (larger than
most dynamic receivers). The picture at the right shows the back side
of the crystal receiver. Notice that the receiver has the same unusual
"plug" as the body and it slides into place (from the right).

The Paravox Model VV3 came with a plastic "Humidrier" case to suck out
the moisture when it was put in this case and a drying agent placed in
the bottom. Notice the two plastic stubs sticking up about half way
(left and right center) to hold the hearing aid above the drying agent.
It also provided place for the receiver, ear mold and receiver cord
under the aid. |
