General RG-3 Mercury Hearing Aid "A" Battery
The General RG-3 1.4 volt mercury "A" hearing aid battery was used in
vacuum tube and transistor hearing aids in the
late 1940s and 1950s. It was manufactured by the the General Dry Battery
Company.
The General RG-3 mercury battery weighed about 1⅜ oz, and measured
⅝" high
by 1" in diameter.
This battery was equivalent to the
Mallory RM-3 battery.
Mercury batteries are no longer sold today because of the large
quantities of mercury in them and the consequent environmental concerns.
