Hearing Aid Batteries

This is an Eveready 1.4 volt mercury hearing aid "A" battery used in the vacuum tube and transistor body hearing aids in the 1950s and 1960s.

This battery weighs about ½ oz., and measures 1 1/8" by ½" in diameter. Mercury batteries of this size were known as "N" batteries.

Mercury batteries are no longer sold today because of the large quantities of mercury in them, and the consequent environmental concerns.
