Aurex Personal Amplifier
The Aurex “P-A” personal amplifier was produced by the Aurex
Corporation of Chicago in 1948.
It was a small battery-operated 3 vacuum tube
amplifier encased in a small handheld trumpet-like device.
It was advertised for use at concerts by people with normal hearing,
but it certainly would have helped hard of hearing people too.
Therefore, it qualifies as an early assistive listening device (ALD). In
many respects, the Aurex P-A was the forerunner of the
personal amplifiers of today such as the Williams PockeTalker and the
Clear Sounds Sound Wizard II.
